1780’s Blue Figured Silk Robe a l’Anglaise

This Robe a l’Anglaise is made from Blue figured silk fabric embroidered with flowers.  By the 1780’s the stomacher had fallen out of fashion, so the gown closes at the center front.  The neckline is trimmed with rushing made from the same fabric, and it has a matching petticoat.  It can be worn down or with the skirt looped up “a la polonaise”.  It was made over the JP Ryan Robe à l’Anglaise, or English Nightgown pattern.

The second set of pictures shows the gown with a green silk taffeta petticoat.
