1790’s Navy Blue Linen Gown

By the 1790’s the style of the sleeve changed to long and tight, coming to the wrists. Stomachers were out of fashion by the 1780’s so the gown closese in the center front. The petticoat is made from the same fabric as the gown. This gown was designed to be more of a middle class gown, so it does not have the elaborate trim of some of the others. It is worn with a straw hat in the 1790’s style.  It made using a diagram from the book “Everyday Dress in Rural America 1783-1800” by Merideth Wright, available on Amazon.
