1780’s Green Fustian Robe a l’Anglaise

In the 18th century the term “fustian” referred to a fabric that is a blend of linen and cotton.  This fabric – a lucky find at JoAnn Fabrics – is also a cotton linen blend, and it has a small woven stripe to it.  It is made over the JP Ryan Robe à l’Anglaise, or English Nightgown pattern and has a matching petticoat.  As it is more of a middle class gown, it does not have elaborate trimming.
